When a ray of light $(P Q)$ incident on the face $A B$ of glass slab, then it bonds towards the normal since refraction taken place from rarer to denser medium. The refracted ray $(Q R)$ travel along straight line and incident on face $D C$ of slab and bonds away from the normal since reflection takes place from denser to rarer medium. The ray $(R S)$ out through face $D C$ is called emergent ray.
