Solution

Part 1 : Antibiotic

Antibiotic is a type of antimicrobial medicine that destroys or inhibits the growth of bacteria.

1. It is an important type of antibacterial drug.

2. It is used both in humans and other animals.

3. These medicines stop the production of compounds needed for the growth of cell wall in bacteria.

4. Bacteria without cell wall is functionless.

Examples: Penicillin, Erythromycin, Streptomycin

Part 2: Reason for non-effectiveness against a viral disease

1. Antibiotics can't be used against viral infections because Virus has a protein covering around them, unlike bacteria which has a cell wall.

2. Antibiotics act on the cell wall in bacteria, where in they can not act on protein coating on viruses.

Therefore Antibiotics are ineffective against viruses.
