Red Blood Cells:

  1. RBCs are a type of blood cells that are synthesized in the bone marrow and are found circulating in the blood.
  2. Red blood cells contain a protein called haemoglobin, which gives them their characteristic red colour.
  3. RBCs are biconcave in shape and mature RBCs lack nucleus.
  4. RBCs are responsible for the transport of oxygen from the lungs to the different parts of the body for utilisation.
  5. And they also play an important role in the transport of carbon dioxide from various parts of the body back to the lungs for exhalation.
  6. Around 45% of blood volume is made up by RBCs.
