Solution

Sodium chloride NaCl:

  • Sodium chloride is commonly called table salt.
  • It is an ionic compound comprised of sodium and chlorine atoms.

Formation of sodium chloride:

  • When sodium atoms Na interact with chlorine atoms Cl, sodium chloride is formed.
  • Sodium will donate an electron -ve to chlorine.
  • Due to the transfer of electrons, sodium will become positively charged while chlorine will become negatively charged.
  • Sodium will become Na+ while Chlorine becomes Cl-.
