What are the products formed when Ammonia is oxidized with Copper oxide?

Open in App
Solution

Chemical properties of Ammonia:

Reduction: The process of removal of oxygen from any substance is known as reduction.

The reaction of Ammonia with oxides: Ammonia reduces oxides to give metals, water vapor and Nitrogen.

Example: Ammonia NH3 reduces Copper oxideCuO to CopperCu and it gets oxidized to NitrogenN2.

2NH3(g)+3CuO(s)3Cu(s)+3H2O(l)+N2(g)

So when Ammonia is oxidized with copper oxide it gives Nitrogen.
