What can be inferred from the following equation?
Na2SO4(aq)+BaCl2(aq)→BaSO4(s)+2NaCl(aq)
(i) It is a double displacement reaction.
(ii) It is a precipitation reaction.
(iii) It is a decomposition reaction.
(iv) BaSO4 is soluble in water
(v) BaSO4 is precipitate.
(vi) Aqueous solution of sodium chloride is formed.
(i),(ii), (v), (vi).
Na2SO4(aq)+BaCl2(aq)→BaSO4(s)+2NaCl(aq)
In above reaction, Na+ and Ba2+ ions are exchanged between the reactants, hence it is a displacement reaction.
The product BaSO4 is not soluble in water, hence is a precipitate. This reaction is also called precipitation reaction due to formation of precipitate whereas NaCl dissolves in water.
