What do you understand by algal bloom?

Algal bloom: When a large number of algae grow on the water bodies like lakes, ponds, etc. They are termed algal blooms. As a result of algal blooms, the sunlight is not able to reach the bottom of the water bodies to green plants. Due to this death of aquatic plants as well as those organisms which depends on these plants for their food occur.
