Solution

An acid is a substance in which the only positive ion is hydrogen.

A salt and hydrogen gas are produced when an acid reacts with a metal.

For example, hydrogen gasH2 and zinc chloride(ZnCl2) are produced when zinc metal (Zn) reacts with hydrochloric acid HCl.

The chemical reaction is as follows:

Zn(s)+2HCl(aq)ZnCl2(aq)+H2(g)
