Permeability:

1. It refers to the ability of a molecule to pass through a membrane.
2. Permeability of a cell membrane is the passive diffusion through the cell membrane.
3. It depends on the factors like the molecule's charge, molecular mass, etc.
4. Example- small hydrophobic gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide can permeate easily through the cell membrane.
5. However, the cell membrane is nearly impermeable to larger, uncharged polar molecules, and all charged molecules including ions.
