What is hypermetropia? Which lens can be used to correct hypermetropia?

Hypermetropia:

  1. An eye disorder in which a picture of a close object forms behind the retina is called hypermetropia.
  2. Hypermetropia is indeed known as hyperopia, long-sightedness, and far-sightedness. Instead of concentrating on the retina, the illumination is concentrated behind it.
  3. The focusing power of the crystalline eye lens decreases due to which the rays from the image converge behind the retina.
  4. This defect can be corrected by using a convex lens of appropriate power.

Convex lens:

  1. An optical lens is typically composed of two spherical surfaces. A convex lens is one that has those surfaces curved outwards.
  2. In the condition of hypermetropia, a converging or positive artificial lens, that is a convex lens, is employed to strengthen the lens. A converging lens, like our eye's lens, is broader in the middle than at the edges.
  3. Defected eye is corrected by using convex lenses such that the lens will bring the image back to the retina.
  4. Depending on how much the focal length has been altered due to the effects of hypermetropia, powered convex lenses can correct this problem. It is also the safest option with minor inconveniences.
