  1. It is produced by the pituitary gland.
  2. It plays an important role in sexual development and functioning.

LH surge:

  1. Due to a rise in luteinizing hormone, ovulation is spontaneously triggered. It is known as LH surge.
  2. It initiates the beginning of ovulation (fertile period).
  3. It begins around 36 hours before ovulation.
  4. The released egg survives for about 24 hours.
