Disorder of urinary system:

  1. Urinary system is concerned with the elimination of waste products present in the blood.
  2. Due to certain causes, the functioning of the urinary system gets disturbed.
  3. These disturbances result in the disorders of the urinary system.

Two such disorders of the urinary system are : Kidney stones and Urinary tract infection.

Kidney stones:

  1. Kidney stones are the small masses of salts and minerals that accumulate inside the kidneys and may travel down the urinary tract.
  2. Kidney stones range in size from just a speck to as big as tennis ball.
  3. Symptom of kidney stones includes blood in the urine and pain in the abdomen.
  4. Surgical techniques may be used for stones which do not pass through the ureters to the bladder on their own.
  5. It is recommended to consume large volume of water in order to facilitate the passage of the stones through the system.

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI):

  1. UTI occurs when bacteria (germs) get into the bladder, kidneys, ureters and the urethra.
  2. It is very common in children. However, people of all ages also get infected by UTIs.
  3. The common symptoms of urinary tract infection include:
    1. Burning or a stinging sensation while urinating.
    2. Increased urge or more frequent need to urinate.
    3. Fever, vomiting and a feeling of nausea and discomfort.
    4. Foul-smelling urine that may look cloudy or contain blood.
  4. The patient should drink extra fluids. This will help in making the urine less concentrated so that the disease causing bacteria can be easily washed out of the body.
