Oestrous cycle:
- It is also referred to as the estrous cycle.
- It commonly occurs in non-primate mammals.
- It starts at the onset of maturity and stops at pregnancies.
- It is a set of sexual processes in females or physiological changes due to reproductive hormones.
- It is commonly seen in cats, dogs, horses, cattle, etc.
Phases of oestrous cycle:
- Proestrus: One or more follicles of the ovary start to grow and estrogen helps to develop the endometrium.
- Estrus: In this phase, the females are sexually receptive and ready to mate.
- Metestrus: In this phase, the corpus luteum starts producing progesterone.
- Anestrus: In this phase, the sexual cycle is made to stop.
