What are ovary and oviduct?

Ovary and oviduct:

1. The female reproductive system is made up of the systems in the female body that is engaged in the production of the ovum.
2. It is made up of a pair of major reproductive organs called ovaries, which are located on either side of the uterus.
3. The oviducts, uterus, cervix, vagina, and external genitalia are secondary structures.
4. The ovum is formed in the ovaries by the germinal epithelium, which gives rise to the ovum.
5. It shows the presence of primary follicles, Graafian follicles, corpus luteum, and corpus Albicans, among other stages of oogenesis.
6. The ovum produced in the ovaries is transferred to the oviducts or fallopian tubes situated above the ovaries on either side.

Functions of ovaries:

1. They protect and shelter a female's eggs until they are ready to be utilized.
2. Ovaries produce estrogen and progesterone, as well as the minor female reproductive hormones, which relax and inhibit.
3. The ovaries release one or more eggs during each menstrual cycle. This procedure is known as ovulation.
4. Each ovary has follicles, and each follicle contains a latent egg.

Function of oviduct:

An ovum is collected from the ovaries and transferred to the uterus by the oviducts or the fallopian tubes.
