Solution

Valency of an element refers to the combining capacity of an element with other to form compound. Silver forms the electronic configuration as [Kr] 4d^10 5s^1. and electrons per shell is 2, 8, 18, 18, 1. In most case the valency of Ag is 1, as the d sub-shell has stable configuration if they loss 1 electrons from s sub-shell. There fore the most common valency of silver is 1. But in some exceptional cases it exhibit valency as 2, when it loses electrons from the stable d sub-shell to exhibit transition property of metals.
