Question

What is the exception to Mendels law of independent assortment ?

Open in App
Solution

Law of independent assortment is acceptable when the genes are located on different chromosomes. If the genes are located on the same chromosomes, they are called as linked genes. The distance between them is so close that they produce 50% recombinant gametes due to crossing over. Linkgae is strictly against the law of independent assortment where Mendel explains that the characters are sorted out independently while forming gametes.
