What is the function of the oviducts?
Structure of oviducts:
1. Oviducts or fallopian tubes are part of the female reproductive system.
2. Fallopian tubes or oviducts formed from both sides of the uterus and extend up to the ovary.
3. It is divided into four parts the uterine part, the isthmus, the ampulla, and the infundibulum.
Functions:
1. The fimbriated end of the fallopian tube receives secondary oocytes from the raptured follicle during ovulation.
2. The ampulla part of the fallopian tube acts as a site for fertilization of the ovum by the sperm.
3. The formation of cleavage, morula, and blastula of the zygote takes place in the fallopian tube.
4. The transportation of blastocyst takes place with peristaltic movement of the fallopian tube.
