What is the importance of vaccination in preventing diphtheria?

Antitoxins which neutralises the toxins produced by Corynebacterium diphtheria are most effective in the early stages of the infection. But in severe cases, the patient cannot be recovered through medication. So vaccination is the best preventive method.
