What is tonoplast and where is it found?

Tonoplast

1. Tonoplast is the membrane enclosing the large central vacuole, also known as the vacuolar membrane.
2. It maintains the turgor pressure of the cell.
3. It controls the movement of molecules between the cytosol and sap.
4. It also stores useful materials and digests waste proteins and organelles.
5. Tonoplasts are unique to plant cells since animal cells do not contain a central vacuole.
