What is vegetative propagation. What are its advantages and disadvantages?

Vegetative propagation refers to the process of plant reproduction where by a fragment of a parents plant is taken in order to produce more plants. These fragments known as cuttings are able to grow into root, stem and finally to full plant. Advantages are: faster and more certain method of propagation, new individual have exactly identical qualities as their parents, can be used to produce plants that do not have viable seeds. Disadvantages are: does not produce new varieties, leads to overcrowding around the parent plant, very little possibility of dispersal.
