Question

What will be the kinetic energy of a body when its mass is made four times and the velocity is doubled?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data

Initial mass = m (say),Initial velocity = v (say),Final mass = 4m,Final velocity = 2v

To find the new kinetic energy.

Step 2: Formula used

The kinetic energy of an object of mass mand speed v is given by,

K.E= 12mv2

Step 3: Calculation

Initial kinetic energy (K) = 12mv2Final kinetic energy = 12×4m×2v2 = 12×4m×4v2 = 16×12mv2 = 16 K

Hence, the kinetic energy will be 16 times the initial kinetic energy.
