Question

What will be the kinetic energy of a body when its mass is made four times and the velocity is doubled?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data

Initialmass=m(say),Initialvelocity=v(say),Finalmass=4m,Finalvelocity=2v

To find the new kinetic energy.

Step 2: Formula used

The kinetic energy of an object of mass mand speed v is given by,

K.E=12mv2

Step 3: Calculation

Initialkineticenergy(K)=12mv2Finalkineticenergy=12×4m×2v2=12×4m×4v2=16×12mv2=16K

Hence, the kinetic energy will be 16 times the initial kinetic energy.
