Solution

Changes due to concentrated salt water:

  1. As the concentrated salt solution is introduced, the cells of onion peel are subjected to a hypertonic solution in the surrounding.
  2. The concentrated salt solution is hypertonic as it has a higher salt concentration compared to the salt concentration of the onion peel cells,
  3. This is why the water moves towards the outside till an equilibrium concentration is reached.
  4. The process because of which water moves towards the outside is called exosmosis.
