What would happen if the diencephalon is damaged?

Diencephalon:

1. The diencephalon is one of the three major sections of the forebrain, with the telencephalon and hypothalamus being the other two.
2. The diencephalon connects the midbrain to the hypothalamus caudally and rostrally.
3. Gene expression clearly defines the three segmental units that make up the growing diencephalon.
4. Diencephalic lesions can cause amnesia that lasts for a long time.
5. The flow of information between important memory components is disrupted when certain nuclei and fiber systems within the diencephalon are damaged.
