When a person leaves his home for sigthseeing by his car, the meter reads 12352 km, When he returns home after two hours the reading is 12413 km.

(a) What is the average speed of the car during this period?

(b)What is the average velocity.

(a) Total distance covered is given as the difference in both the readings

So,

Total distance traveled =12416 km -12352 km

Or, Total distance traveled = 64 km

Total time taken is 2 hours

So, Averagespeed=TotaldistancetraveledTotaltimetaken=642=32 km/h

(b) As he returns to his house, the displacement is zero

And we know,

Average Velocity =displacementtime=0

Hence the average velocity is 0.
