Which among the following changes are exothermic or endothermic in nature.

Dilution of sulphuric acid.

Solution

  • Endothermic reactions are reactions where energy is absorbed in the form of heat. For example, the melting of ice cubes.
  • Exothermic reactions are reactions in which energy is released in the form of heat. For example, Rusting of iron.

Dilution of sulphuric acid: when sulphuric acid is diluted with water then in solution sulfate and hydronium ions are formed and heat is released.

H2SO4(l)sulphuricacid+H2O(l)waterH3O+(aq)hydroniumion+SO42-(aq)sulphateion+heat

It is a highly exothermic reaction because heat is released in the form of heat in this reaction.
