Tubectomy is a minor surgery performed in females. It is a safe and effective contraceptive option for women. It is generally considered as a permanent method of contraception.

In tubectomy, the fallopian tubes are tied and cut. This prevents the egg from meeting the sperm and thus fertilisation is prevented.

Hence the ducts blocked during tubectomy are fallopian tubes. The fallopian tubes (oviducts) are 10-12 cm long and have three parts: the funnel shaped infundibulum, a wider ampulla and a narrow isthmus.

The infundibulum has finger-shaped fimbriae that collect the secondary oocyte released from the ovary.

The fallopian tube is internally lined with ciliated epithelium. The cilia help in the movement of the egg inside the fallopian tube.
