Cortisol is the main glucocorticoid synthesised by adrenal cortex (outer region) of the adrenal gland. It stimulates gluconeogenesis, lipolysis and proteolysis and inhibit cellular uptake and utilisation of amino acids. It also produces anti-inflammatory reactions and suppresses the immune response. They also stimulate RBC production.
