Solution

Aristotle:

  1. Aristotle, a Greek scientist, was the first to classify various living things as plants and animals.
  2. He is also known as the ‘Father of Biology'.
  3. He classified animals according to whether they lived on land, in water, or in the air.
  4. He named them terrestrial, aquatic, and aerial respectively.

Drawbacks of Aristotle's Classification:

  1. Aristotle's system of classification was very crude and unnatural.
  2. It was also misleading as all the different forms of animals that live in the air (insects, birds, and some mammals) were placed under him under the aerial category.

Hence the system discarded the modern-day classification.
