Why are reactions between covalent compounds slow?

• Covalent compounds involve breaking and forming of new bonds.
• Covalent compounds have strong bonds.
• Hence, enough energy is to be provided to a molecule so that the bonds can be broken. This makes the reactions involving covalent compounds slow.
