Viroids :

1. Viroids were discovered by T.O. Diener in 1971.
2. They are smaller than a virus and are infectious.
3. They are named viroids because they lack the protein coat.
4. Viroids only have RNA and lacked the cellular machinery of the cell.
5. Hence, it is referred to as acellular.
