Question

Why do animals hibernate ? Why don't we humans

Open in App
Solution

First of all, let us understand why there is a need for hibernation.

  • Animals hibernate to survive the chilly winters which last for months.
  • During this period there is very little or no availability of food.
  • They need to save energy to survive the whole winter.
  • During this period, metabolism and heartbeat rates fall down considerably.

Now, for humans, since being warm blooded, need continuous food supply in order to generate heat. We have ample amount of food supply. Also our body can’t sustain body temperature below 98.4° F (or 37° C).
