Question

Why do cathode rays do not depend upon the material of cathode and anode or the type of gas taken in the discharge tube while the canal rays depend?

Solution

Cathode rays is independent of nature of the gas in the discharge tube, because cathode rays are made up of electrons and electrons are universal constituents means they are same for every gas. While anode rays are made up of positive ions and these are dependent of nature of gas present in tube because positive ions differs for each gas.
