Question

Why does excess of bubbles come out when the cap of a cola drink is opened?

Open in App
Solution

A cola beverage is produced by dissolving carbon dioxide in the solution under pressure. Increase in pressure increases the solubility of gases. Therefore, more carbon dioxide is dissolved at higher pressure. When this pressure is suddenly released by removing the cap of the bottle, carbon dioxide becomes less soluble and comes out in the form of bubbles.
