Question

Why Zn+2 is diamagnetic whereas Cr+3 is paramagnetic

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student

Zn2+ has an outer configuration of [Ar]18 4s0 3d10 , where all the electrons are paired up hence it is diamagnetic.

Cr3+ has a configuration of [Ar}18 4s0 3d3 where there are 3 unpaired electrons so it will exhibit paramagnetism.
