How is the CAT Score Evaluated?

The CAT examination is conducted in three sessions after which a process of normalization takes place which ensures fairness and equality in the performance of the candidates across different locations. As such, the CAT scorecards are generated after a sub-normalization process under the three parts of the exam which are

  1. Quantitative Reasoning
  2. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning
  3. Verbal and Reading Comprehension.

As such, the marks scored by the candidates are converted to the percentile format which facilitates the process of shortlisting. The score calculator is available online. The highest CAT scores are further noticeably highlighted so that the level of competitiveness is clearly visible to all those who wish to apply. Candidates can visit CAT score vs percentile to know about the process in a detailed way.

CAT Score Calculation:

In the CAT exam the percentile is calculated just like many other examinations. All the papers of the candidates are evaluated and sorted in descending order of their CAT marks. Also, for CAT, the percentile is calculated up to three decimal places and is then rounded off to the next closest possible number.

Importance of CAT Score:

The CAT scores are used as a shortlisting criterion by all the 20 IIMs and several other prestigious management schools in the country. The IIMs also take the sectional scores into consideration while shortlisting the candidates for WAT and PI.
