The Council of Ministers exercises executive authority in India. It comprises senior ministers, who are further classified as Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge).
On July 7th 2021 – the President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, reshuffled the allocation of portfolios among the members of the Council of Ministers. After the reshuffling, the Council of Ministers comprises the PM and 63 ministers. Union Council of Ministers 2021-2022
After a resounding victory in the 2019 General Elections, the newly re-elected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi took the oath of office along with the Council of Ministers on Thursday, 30th May.
As per the Constitution of India, the total strength of the Council of Ministers cannot exceed 15% of the total number of Lok Sabha MPs. The current strength of the 17th Lok Sabha is 543 members and hence the Council of Ministers cannot be more than 81.
At the time of swearing-in, the Council of Ministers comprises the PM and 63 ministers. In the 2021 Council of Ministers, there are 24 Cabinet Ministers, 9 Ministers of State (Independent Charge) and 30 Ministers of State.
The portfolios were distributed on Friday, May 31st.

A few key names from the previous Modi government are missing in the new list. Maneka Gandhi, Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore were not a part of the 2021 Cabinet.
