NEET Paper Analysis 2020

NEET is a medical entrance examination conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency) annually. It is a single-level entrance examination, enabling medical aspirants to seek admission to the undergraduate medical/dental courses, at colleges, and institutes including those governed by any other law across the country. Therefore, admissions to MBBS courses in AIIMS, New Delhi, JIPMER, and all AIIMS like institutes will be done through NEET. NEET 2022 is scheduled to take place on 17th July 2022.

NEET Paper Analysis

The paper analysis covers a diverse set of topics which are discussed below:

Increase in the number of aspirants

Over the years, it has been witnessed that there has been a sharp rise in the count of candidates participating in NEET. Where NEET 2018 saw nearly 11.4 lakh students, the number of candidates appearing for NEET 2019 was close to 13.5 lakhs. NEET 2020, saw the participation of nearly 15.97 lakhs while NEET 2021 recorded close to 16.14 lakh registrations this time. This escalation can be attributed to the increasing number of states that are opting for NEET scores as opposed to other common entrance tests conducted at the state level to seek admissions in the field of medicine, which are not conducted anymore.

Some other reasons are – rise in the number of candidates clearing 12th Class board exams, policies, different schemes, and scholarships offered by the government. Also, the count of seats presented has increased – from 60,000, this time it is estimated to cross more than one lakh.

Difficulty Level of Paper

NEET 2021

The NEET 2021 question paper as per experts and students fared between easy to moderate on the difficulty meter. However, some students felt that the paper was lengthy. While in general, the Chemistry and Biology sections were between easy and moderate, Physics this time was challenging. Experts believe that the level of the NEET paper has improved this year in comparison to last year. The quality of the NEET question paper was good.

Also, the NEET 2021 paper this time had many questions in the match and column format, in addition to an increase in the number of assertion and reasoning questions. All in all, while the paper could be categorized as an easy to moderate level paper, the difficulty level was slightly greater. However, the paper was NCERT centric.

3 students went on to score 720 marks in NEET-UG 2021.

NEET 2020

The exam was conducted on 13th September and 14th October and the results were announced on 16th October 2020. The paper drew mixed reactions when it comes from students’ perspectives. Overall, compared to previous years’ trends, NEET 2020 fared between easy and moderate on the difficulty meter. Hence, when it comes to discussing the difficulty level, it can be considered conventional. The cut-off for NEET 2020 was anticipated to be high as many students surpassed scores of 600. So much so, that where NEET 2019 saw only 3 students crossing the 700 score, the NEET 2020 Top 50 Toppers’ list saw all the listed students’ score to be above 700. Two students went on to score 720.

Let us discuss each section in brief:

NEET 2020 Physics –

• NEET 2020 Physics was comparatively easier than NEET 2019 Physics as per students
• 33% of this section was based on NCERT sources
• Questions in Physics, which usually require lengthy computations, were not as long this time around. Any student with constant practice could solve questions
• Unit Mechanics was highlighted for its weightage. Nearly 12 questions appeared from the unit

NEET 2020 Chemistry –

The chemistry section was again moderate on the difficulty scale. Organic chemistry section saw a good number of questions appearing in the paper. Most of the questions as expected were based on NCERT sources. Overall, this section was not as time-consuming.

NEET 2020 Biology – 

Biology section was heavily influenced by NCERT content. Except for a few, almost all questions were based on NCERT. Botany section was relatively challenging this year. Zoology section, on the other hand, fared between average and challenging on the difficulty scale. Some questions were twisted and required an in-depth understanding of topics to crack them. The unit from which most questions were asked was Human Physiology.

NEET 2019 Physics – Compared to others, physics was found to be the tougher one to crack. The chart below can give a better idea of the number of questions asked and the complexity of the paper.

The first pie chart shows that 22 questions were asked from class 11 while 23 questions were asked from class 12. The second chart gives an idea of the level of questions.

NEET 2019 Chemistry – Chemistry is considered to be a scoring subject. The chart below depicts the number of questions asked from classes 11 & 12 and the different types of questions.

Conclusion: NEET 2019 can be scaled as average. Apart from physics, the chemistry and biology sections were found to be moderate.

NEET 2018

NEET 2018 Physics – The physics section was considered to be the toughest section comparatively both by aspirants and experts. Questions asked were conceptual and quite lengthy.

NEET 2018 Chemistry – Chemistry section could be scaled as moderate on the difficulty meter compared to other sections. It was not that lengthy and questions were mostly based on simpler topics. Charts below can give a better idea.

NEET 2018 Biology – Biology was considered to be the easiest among other sections. The paper saw most of the questions appearing from NCERT directly and was typically concept-based. Refer to the chart below to get an insight.

Conclusion: Overall, the paper was moderate and could be cracked.

NEET Exam Paper Pattern 2022 – Latest

NEET is a pen-paper based offline test. This objective questions-based exam is carried out for 3 hours 20 minutes with the following division of marks for each section.

Additionally, there is a slight change in the NEET 2022 exam pattern. Each subject comprises 2 sections – Section A (35 questions), Section B (15 questions). Out of the 15 questions appearing in Section B, any 10 can be answered.
